Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish مهندس (mühendis) (Turkish mühendis), from Arabic مُهَنْدِس (muhandis), from هَنْدَسَة (handasa), from Middle Persian handʾck' (handāza) (→ Persian اندازه (andâza)). Akin to ендѐзе.
