Inherited from Middle Mongol ᠮᠠᠩᠭᠤᠰ (maŋɣus), from Proto-Mongolic *maŋɣu + *-s. Cognate with Buryat мангадхай (mangadxaj) and Kalmyk маңһс (mañğs). Doublet of Мангуд (Mangud).
