From an earlier льгоба (lĭgoba, “ease”), a derivative from Proto-Slavic *lьgъ (“mild, light”) + -оба (-oba). Akin to Russian облегче́ние (oblexčénije, “relief”), Slovene ləgóta (“ease”).
