Etymology

Probably borrowed from Karelian linna.[1] Cognates include Ter Sami ланнӭ (lânnʹe), Skolt Sami lâʹnn (town; castle), Inari Sami lanne (town; prison) and Northern Sami ladni (castle, fortress; prison).

May have been influenced by North Germanic land.
