From Mongolic. Compare Classical Mongolian ᠬᠢᠲᠠᠳ (qitad), Written Oirat ᡍᡅᡐᠠᡑ (kitad); Mongolian хятад (hjatad), Buryat хитад (xitad), Kalmyk китд (kitd); and also Southern Altai кыдат (kïdat), Khakas хыдат (xıdat), dialectical Yakut кытат (kıtat, warm land in the south where birds migrate to for winter).
