From Proto-Slavic *kǫdravъ, *kǫdřavъ, cognate with Macedonian кадрав (kadrav), Russian ку́дрявый (kúdrjavyj). Morphologically equivalent to къ́дря (kǎ́drja, to curl hair) + -ав (-av).
