Inherited from Old East Slavic *зубръ (*zubrŭ), зубрь (zubrĭ), from Proto-Slavic *zǫbrъ.[1][2][3] Cognate with Russian зубр (zubr), Old Church Slavonic зѫбръ (zǫbrŭ), Old Polish ząbr, ząbrz. Doublet of жубръ (žubr).
