Etymology

A clipping derived one way or another from жизнь (žiznʹ, life). If directly, then cf. винда́ (vindá) < Ви́ндоуз (Víndouz) for the conversion to a class 1 feminine noun. Semantically, however, it corresponds better to жи́зненный (žíznennyj, relatable).

  • (file)
  • IPA(key): [ʐɨˈza] (slightly less common)
