Etymology
From German Ökologie (coined by Ernst Haeckel), from Ancient Greek οἶκος (oîkos, “house”) + -λογία (-logía, “study of”). By surface analysis, еко- (eko-) + -логія (-lohija). Compare Russian эколо́гия (ekológija), Belarusian экало́гія (ekalóhija), Polish ekologia.
