From доби́я (dobíja, “to extract, to acquire”) + -тък (-tǎk), from an earlier Proto-Slavic *dobytъkъ. Cognate with Belarusian дабы́так (dabýtak), Macedonian добиток (dobitok), Polish dobytek, Serbo-Croatian доби́так, Ukrainian добу́ток (dobútok).
