From Ancient Greek αἱμορροΐς (haimorrhoḯs), from αἱμόρροος (haimórrhoos, “flowing with blood”), from αἷμα (haîma, “blood”) and the root of ῥέω (rhéō, “flow”). Compare Russian геморро́й (gemorrój), Belarusian гемаро́й (hjemarój).
