Etymology

From Proto-Mordvinic *vašə, from Proto-Finno-Permic [Finno-Volgaic] *wača (young animal: female reindeer, foal). Akin to Moksha ваша (vaša), Northern Sami váža, Pite Sami vaatjam. Finnish vaadin is a loanword from Saami.
