From *bȫgček, where -ček is a diminutive suffix, from Proto-Turkic *bȫg (insect).[1]

Cognate with Tatar бөҗәк (böcäk, insect), Kazakh бөжек (böjek, insect), Azerbaijani böcək, Turkmen möjek, Crimean Tatar böcek, Turkish böcek (insect), etc.
