Etymology
Simplified from an earlier бърдчи́на (bǎrdčína), an augmentative form of бърдец (bǎrdec, “hillock”) (obsolete, dialectal), possibly under the phonetic influence of Bulgarian бъ́рча (bǎ́rča, “to wrinkle”). Equivalent to бърдо (bǎrdo) + -чина (-čina).
