Etymology
From Proto-Abkhaz-Abaza *pǝ-nǝ-ć̣a,[1] from Proto-Northwest Caucasian *pʷA.[2] Cognate with Abaza пынцӏа (pəncʼa, “nose”), пынцӏыжв (pəncʼəžʷ, “nostril”), Adyghe пэ (pɛ, “nose”), and Kabardian пэ (pɛ).
Compare also Old Armenian պինչ (pinčʻ), Old Georgian პინჩი (ṗinči).
