χαράδρα

Ancient Greek

Alternative forms

  • χᾰρᾰ́δρη (kharádrē) Ionic

Etymology

The older connection with χαράσσω (kharássō, to sharpen, to whet) must be given up. Related to χέραδος (khérados, debris, gravel) and thus probably from Pre-Greek, in view of the variation.
