χαράδρα
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- χᾰρᾰ́δρη (kharádrē) — Ionic
Etymology
The older connection with χαράσσω (kharássō, “to sharpen, to whet”) must be given up. Related to χέραδος (khérados, “debris, gravel”) and thus probably from Pre-Greek, in view of the variation.
