πλάδος

Etymology
Unclear word, found especially in medical literature. It has been derived from Proto-Indo-European *peld-, like Latvian peldēt (“to swim”) and Lithuanian peldėti (“to swim”). Alternatively, Beekes considers a Pre-Greek origin.
