νυκτάλωψ

Ancient Greek

Etymology

The suffix, which is found also in ἀγχίλωψ (ankhílōps), αἱμάλωψ (haimálōps) and θῡμάλωψ (thūmálōps), is typically Pre-Greek. The connection with νύξ (núx, night) must be folk-etymological.
