From Byzantine Greek κλαδίν (kladín), from Koine Greek κλαδίον (kladíon), with change of accent from κλάδιον (kládion), from a diminutive of Ancient Greek κλάδος (kládos). Compare κλαρί (klarí), as well as the borrowed doublet κλάδος (kládos).
