Etymology

Perfect participle of καταψύχομαι (katapsýchomai), passive voice of καταψύχω (katapsýcho). Semantic loan from French surgelé or from English refrigerated. The medieval κατεψυγμένος (katepsugménos), with different sense: "destroyed from cold".[1]
