Etymology

Perfect participle of καθίσταμαι (kathístamai), passive voice of καθιστώ (make, appoint). Created from the stem εστη- of the ancient 'second' aorist κατέστην (katéstēn) + the usual passive participle ending -μένος (-ménos). The ancient passive perfect participle was καθεστώς (kathestṓs).
As a political term, a free translation of English established.[1] Also substantivised: see κατεστημένο (katestiméno).
