Borrowed from Akkadian 𒂵𒉡𒌑𒌝 (qanûm, reed), whence also Mycenaean Greek 𐀒𐀜𐀛𐀠 (ko-no-ni-pi /⁠konōni-pʰi⁠/). There are indications, according to Beekes, it may have come through Pre-Greek.
