From ιστο- (isto-, histo-) + -λόγιο (-lógio, suffix for lists, catalogues). Calque of English weblog, blog. From Ancient Greek ἱστός (histós, web) (see histo-), and from Hellenistic Koine -λόγιον (-lógion, compilation). Compare with English -logue,e.g. catalogue).
