From Middle Persian 𐭰𐭠𐭲‎𐭫𐭠𐭭𐭢 (cʾt‎lʾng /čatrang/, chess), from Sanskrit चतुरङ्ग (caturaṅga, “four parts” of an army: king, elephants, horses, foot soldiers).
