Etymology

Calque of French réclame. See the initial sense of the ancient Greek verb διαφημίζω (diaphēmízō, to make known, to spread abroad).[1] Attested since 1887 in Katharevousa as διαφήμισις (diafímisis) with its modern sense.[2]
