γωλεός
Ancient Greek
Etymology
The word has been compared with Lithuanian guōlis (“den”), Latvian guoļa (“lair, nest”) and Armenian կաղաղ (kaġaġ, “hole”), from Proto-Indo-European *guol-. However, this comparison is uncertain and the influence of φωλεός (phōleós) must be reckoned.
