Learnedly, from Ancient Greek ἀποβάθρα (apobáthra). απο- (apo-) from ἀπό (apó, “from”) + βαθρ- + suffix -α (-a) from the ancient βάθρον n (báthron, “pedestal, podium”), βα- stem from verb βαίνω (baínō).[1]
