Etymology
From ἀλλᾶς (allâs, “sausage”), genitive ἀλλᾶντ(ος) (allânt(os)) + -ικό (-ikó). Perhaps from dialectal [script needed] (*allāwent-, “sausage seasoned with garlic”), from [script needed] (*allā-, “garlic”), an ultimate borrowing from Latin alium.[1]
