From ἀλλᾶς (allâs, sausage), genitive ἀλλᾶντ(ος) (allânt(os)) + -ικό (-ikó). Perhaps from dialectal [script needed] (*allāwent-, sausage seasoned with garlic), from [script needed] (*allā-, garlic), an ultimate borrowing from Latin alium.[1]
