Χοσρόης
Ancient Greek
Alternative forms
- Ὀσρόης (Osróēs)
Etymology
From Old Median *Husrawah (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?), with the suffix adapted to -ης (-ēs); compare Persian خسرو (xosrow) as well as Old Armenian Խոսրով (Xosrov) and Old Georgian ხოსრო (xosro) from the same or a related Iranian source, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *Hhucráwah (literally “Good Fame”) (see there for more). Distantly related to the native Greek name Εὐκλῆς (Euklês).
