Cognate with Parthian 𐫀𐫇𐫘𐫤𐫏𐫃𐫀𐫗 (ʾwstygʾn /⁠ōstīgān⁠/, “strong, firm”), 𐫀𐫇𐫘𐫤𐫏𐫃 (ʾwstyg /⁠ōstīg⁠/, “firm, stable”). Nyberg analyses as *ava-staya-ka-.
