From Proto-Polynesian *kakaha (to burn) (compare with Maori kakā, Tongan kakaha and Samoan ʻaʻasa) from Proto-Polynesian *kaha (to burn) (compare with Hawaiian ʻā, Rapa Nui ).[1]
