Cognate with Burmese ရွာ (rwa, to rain), Old Chinese (OC *ɢʷaʔ, *ɢʷas), Nuosu (hxa, rain), Lisu ꓟꓶꓽ ꓦꓻ (mɯ̀ h̃ɑ, rain), Southern Pumi gui⁵⁵ (rain), Tangut 𗋩 (*wer², rain), Newar वा (, rain) and Mizo rùah (rain). Compare Lhao Vo mug꞉ qu (to rain), Zaiwa mau wo (to rain), Longchuan Achang mau³¹ ʐo⁵⁵ (to rain) and Hpon tămù wáʔ.
