Etymology
From Proto-Fula-Serer *ɗem, whence also Fula ɗemŋgal.[1] Cognate with Bedik í-ɗém. Possibly from a Proto-Niger-Congo root, whence also Nalu rim, Balanta-Kentohe lem, Bidyogo neme, Biafada dema, Mbulungish lem, Tikar demog, Fam alam, Wawa lem, Palor perem, Laalaa pírím, Saafi-Saafi padam, Noon palam, Gbiri-Niragu pirin, Abua enem, Degema udem, Khana edem, Gokana dem, Fakkanci rerem, Wolof làmmiñ, Sherbro limilin, Mmani dimilin, Landoma damir, Southern Kissi diamulen.
