Etymology
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-ŋak (“bird”). Cognate with Burmese ငှက် (hngak), Nusu ŋ̊a̠⁵³, Lisu ꓠꓬꓹ (ɲɑ̌) and Northern Tujia ȵie³⁵ pi⁵⁵. Compare Lhao Vo ngho', Zaiwa ngvoq, Longchuan Achang m̥oʔ⁵⁵ and Hpon ŋʊ̀ʔ sà.
