Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ایرماق, ایرمق (ırmak), from Proto-Turkic *yïrmak. Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (yırmak, “stream”), Azerbaijani irmaq, Chuvash ҫырма (śyrma), etc.
