Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish ایشیمق (ışımak), akin to Old Turkic [script needed] (yaşu-, to shine),[1] from Proto-Turkic *yạĺ(č)- (to blaze, flame).[2]

Cognate with Chuvash ҫиҫме (śiśme, to shine).
