Etymology

Sino-Vietnamese word from 單槍獨馬; literally "with one spear and one horse".

Very similar to, although not exactly the same as, various Chinese sayings like 單人獨馬单人独马 (đơn nhân độc mã) and 單槍匹馬单枪匹马 (đơn thương thất mã).
