çerekçi

Albanian

Etymology

By surface analysis, çerek (coin of little value) + -xhi. Possibly borrowed from Ottoman Turkish چیركجی (çeyrekçi),[1] although that is only attested in the sense pedlar of butcher's meat,[2] and may hence be an Albanian formation.

Noun

çerekçi m (plural çerekçinj, definite çerekçiu)

  1. (archaic) poor artisan, or a poor person in general
    Hypernym: zanatçi
