Inherited from Ottoman Turkish چیقین (çıḳın, a square cloth or handkerchief made into a round bundle),[1] from Proto-Turkic *čïgïn (parcel, pack), from *čïg- (to tie up a parcel, to sew with small stitches) + *-ïn.[2][3]
