The "banking" concept of education was a key educational theory critique by libertarian Brazilian educator Paulo Freire (in particularly, see w:Paulo Freire#Theoretical contributions) and refers to educational models and practice whereby students are assumed to be empty vaults into which educators deposit knowledge.
