וַיְהִ֣י׀ כְּמִשְׁלֹ֣שׁ חֳדָשִׁ֗ים וַיֻּגַּ֨ד לִֽיהוּדָ֤ה לֵֽאמֹר֙ זָֽנְתָה֙ תָּמָ֣ר כַּלָּתֶ֔ךָ וְגַ֛ם הִנֵּ֥ה הָרָ֖ה לִזְנוּנִ֑ים וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוּדָ֔ה הוֹצִיא֖וּהָ וְתִשָּׂרֵֽף׃ |

כְּמִשְׁלֹ֣שׁ חֳדָשִׁ֗ים |
| [The expression about three months, refers to] most of the first and the last [months] and the complete middle [month]. "כמשלש חדשים" is in the language of "upon tripling of the months", as (Esther 9:19), "And sending portions", and (Isaiah 11: 14) "the stretching out of their hands", and thus did Onkelos translate it as "the tripling of the month": |
רובו של ראשון ורובו של אחרון ואמצעי שלם, ולשון כמשלש חדשים, כהשתלש החדשים, כמו (אסתר ט כב) ומשלוח מנות, (ישעיה יא יד) משלוח ידם, וכן תרגם אונקלוס כתלתות ירחיא: |
