Mr. E. H. Marshall

The death took place on Friday at St. Leonards of Mr. E. H. Marshall, librarian to the Hastings Corporation and the Reference Library founded by Lord Brassey.

Mr. Marshall was the son of the late Rev. Edw. Marshall, Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and vicar of Sandford St. Martin, and was born in 1851. He took his degree at Oriel College, Oxford, in 1874, and in 1880 was appointed librarian by Lord Brassey of the Reference Library founded by him at Hastings. Mr. Marshall was an authority on all subjects connected with the history of the town, and he readily placed his store of knowledge at the disposal of those seeking it.

Though he refrained from taking part in public life, he was for a number of years churchwarden of St. Mary Magdalen, St. Leonards, and hon. secretary of the Hastings Mendicity Society.
