The death is announced of the Rev. Edward Boucher James, M.A., vicar of Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight, on Monday. Mr. James was born in 1819, and was for a short time at Uppingham School. Afterwards together with his lifelong friend the late Professor Freeman, he was under the care of the Rev. Robert Gutch, of Segrave, before proceeding to Queen's College, Oxford. On taking his degree in 1842 he was placed in the Second Class in Lit. Hum., and in due course became Fellow, tutor and bursar of is College. He was Senior Proctor in 1856-57. In 1858 he was presented by the College to the living of Carisbrooke-with-Northwood, and in 1883 was appointed chaplain to the Governor of the island and of a series of letters in the Isle of Wight county Press on the annals, archæological and historical, of the island.
