Vol′ga, a river in Russia, which rises in the western part of the country in the Valdai Hills, and by a winding course crosses Russia and flows through many mouths into the Caspian Sea. It is the longest river in Europe, being 2,320 miles in length. It is connected by canals with the Baltic and White Seas.
