WAGNER, Rudolf, German physiologist: b. Baireuth, Bavaria, 30 July 1805; d. Göttingen, Germany, 13 May 1864. He was educated at Erlangen Würzburg and at Paris, was appointed professor of zoology at the University of Erlangen in 1833 and in 1840 was called to that chair at the University of Göttingen, where he remained until his death. He published Lehrbuch der vergleichenden Anatomie (2 vols., 1834-35); Handwörterbuch der Physiologie (4 vols., 1842-43); Vorstudien zu einer wissenschaftlichen Morphologie des menschlichen Gehirns als Seelenorgans (2 vols., 1860-62), etc.
