ENGELBERT, Bohemian monastic author: b. Völkersdorf, Styria, about 1250; d. 1331. He received his education at Prague and Padua, entered the order of the Benedictines and in 1297-1327 was abbot of Admont, Styria. He is best known to scholars through his Roman history; entitled ‘De Ortu, Progressu et Fine Imperii Romani,’ which has gone through numerous editions.
