Length, six inches; blackish-brown or lead-color, with bluish-white spots; head small and body slender. Western.
15. Mud Puppy. Water Dog. Necturus maculatus.
Length, twenty-four inches; brown, spotted; bright-red gills in three tufts on each side. Aquatic. Western and Southern.
