not thought fitting, however, to carry out all the requests dictated by his excessive humility. He was buried near the high altar of the church he had built. It is true that the inscription which he had composed was carved on the stone that covers his remains; but there was added to this the story of his conversion, and a eulogy to his virtues. His hospital, and especially the church where he is buried, are visited by every stranger who comes to Seville. Several of the masterpieces of Murillo adorn the chapel. The Prodigal's Return, and The Pool of Bethesda which are now admired in the art gallery of SeƱor Soult, formerly decorated the walls of the Hospital de la Caridad.
