IOWA.
The General Assembly consists of a Senate of 50 and a House of Keprc- 3entatives of 108 members, meeting every tAvo years or an unlimited session. Senators are elected for four years, half of them retiring every second year ; Representatives for two years.
The State is represented in Congress by 2 Senators and 11 Representatives.
Governor.— George W. Clarke, 1913-15 (6,800 dollars). Secretary of State— y^. S. Allen.
Other State officials are a lieut. -Governor, an Auditor, a Treasurer an Attorney- General and a Superintendent of Public Instruction, all elected for

In 1910 there were 1,148,171 males aud 1,076,600 females.
Of the total population in 1900, 305,920 were foreign-born, 123,162 being German, 29,875 Swedish, 28,321 Irish, 25,634 Norwegian, 21,627 English, 17,102 Danish, and 15,687 Canadian. The State census of 1905 showed a population of 2,210,050 ; the population in 1910 Avas 2,224,771. Of the population over 10 years of age in 1905 the occupation of 40 7 per cent, was agricultural, 6'7 per cent, professional, 8*0 per cent, personal, 16*4 trade or transportation, 16*1 manufacturing, 12'1 unskilled labour.
