The chief articles of British produce imported into India in 1869 were cotton goods, of the value of 10,850,509/. ; iron, of the value of 1,732,357/. ; and copper, of the value of 1,245,491/.
Next to the United Kingdom, the countries having the largest trade with India are China and Japan, France, and Australasia. The value of the imports into India from all countries — including treasure and, in the case of the United Kingdom, foreign and colonial pro- duce — was as follows in each of the years ending the last of March 1867 and 1868 :—
